The Washington Nationals made a move today (Monday March 19) to shore up their starting rotation by signing right-hander Jeremy Hellickson. While it is not certain that his being signed to a minor league contract will play into a starting spot on a rotation which currently includes Max Scherzer, Stephan Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, and Tanner Roark, the fifth spot is open and Hellickson does have a chance.
Last year Hellickson pitched for the Phillies before being traded to the Baltimore Orioles on July 28th. His combined ERA in 2017 was 5.43.
Hellickson turns 31 at the beginning of the 2018 season.
