The Baltimore Orioles Have a new VP of Strategy & Analytics

The Baltimore Orioles have announced their hiring of Scott Lewis as their new VP of Strategy & Analytics. Lewis has been a professor with George Washington University and at the same time, taught in the Sports Management program at Georgetown University. Lewis is continuing his adjunct professorships while with the Orioles.

Lewis previously worked in the marketing departments for the Washington Nationals, the National Basketball Association and the D.C. United soccer team.

Orioles Executive Vice President John Angelos welcomed Lewis to the team, “The club welcomes Scott to our talented Camden Yards team as we continue development of best practices in analytics and data management for use both between and outside the lines. Focusing our multiple venue, media, and community platforms to obtain the greatest outreach and most reliable research output possible begins with reinvesting now in the identification and use of technology in all areas of the club’s operations.”

This move is impressive on the part of the Orioles and demonstrates the seriousness in which they are taking the analytical side of baseball.
