It was announced today by the San Francisco Giants that their former long time manager Dusty Baker will return to the club as a Special Advisor to the CEO. His duties will include both baseball and business activities.
During his reign as Giants manager (1993-2002) Baker led his Giants teams to three post-season berths, two as division champs and one as a wild card team. Baker also managed the Chicago Cubs (2003-2006), the Cincinnati Reds (2008-2013), and the Washington Nationals (2016-2017. He has a overall winning percentage of .532 over 22 seasons and is the 14th winningest manager in MLB history.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dusty back to the organization,” said Giants President and CEO Laurence M. Baer. “In addition to being one of the most beloved Giants alumni, Dusty brings a wealth of expertise, knowledge and experience to this position and I know his contributions will be felt far and wide throughout our organization.”
Baker was a career .278 hitter over 19 major league seasons. He got his first taste of big league ball with Atlanta in 1968, one year after graduating high school. He made the big leagues his home to stay in the 1972 season hitting .321 and hitting 17 HRs his rookie year. Over his career, Baker compiled 242 home runs, 320 doubles, 23 triples, and 1,031 RBI. After Atlanta, Baker played for the Los Angeles Dodgers for eight seasons, the Giants for one and the Oakland A’s for two. Baker retired from playing after the 1986 season.
